How to Get Wegovy: Online, With Insurance, or Self-Pay
A Wegovy prescription comes from a licensed clinician, in person or online. Then use insurance and the savings card, as little as $25 a month, or self-pay.
To get Wegovy, you need a prescription from a licensed clinician, in person or online; you then pay with insurance and the savings card (as little as $25 a month) or at Novo Nordisk's self-pay price of $149 to $399 a month, depending on the form and dose.2 Wegovy comes as a weekly pen and, since its approval on December 22, 2025, as a daily pill.18 This guide explains how to get Wegovy online, how to get Wegovy covered by insurance, and the cheapest way to pay without it.
Who can get Wegovy?
Wegovy is approved for weight reduction in adults with obesity, or adults with overweight and at least one weight-related condition, alongside diet and exercise.1 The injection is also approved for adolescents 12 and older with obesity, to reduce cardiovascular risk in adults with heart disease, and for a form of fatty liver disease called MASH with moderate to advanced fibrosis.1 The pill is approved for adults only, for weight reduction and cardiovascular risk reduction.1
A clinician decides whether Wegovy fits your history. People with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2 should not take it.1 See who qualifies for a GLP-1 for the details.
How to get Wegovy, step by step
- Get a prescription from your doctor or a licensed telehealth clinician. Wegovy is prescription-only.1
- Pick pen or pill. The pen is weekly, from 0.25 mg up to 2.4 mg, with a 7.2 mg option. The pill is daily, from 1.5 mg up to 25 mg.1
- Check your coverage. If your plan covers Wegovy, use the savings card.2
- If not covered, pay the self-pay price through NovoCare Pharmacy, with home delivery or pickup.2
- Ask the pharmacy to compare prices at checkout if you fill at a retail pharmacy.3
How to get Wegovy online
You can get Wegovy online by booking a telehealth visit with a licensed clinician, who reviews your health history and weight and sends a prescription to a pharmacy. NovoCare Pharmacy, Novo Nordisk's own pharmacy, can fill it with home delivery or pharmacy pickup at the self-pay price.2 Bloomberg reported in November 2025 that the self-pay offers were also available through partners including GoodRx, WeightWatchers and Costco.5
Telehealth programs charge their own visit or membership fees on top of the drug. Our cheapest Wegovy ranking compares programs on total monthly cost, and semaglutide online covers the wider market.
Can you get Wegovy without a doctor's prescription?
No. Wegovy is a prescription drug.1 The FDA warns that sites selling GLP-1 drugs without a prescription may sell counterfeit products with the wrong ingredient or dose, and advises buying only from state-licensed pharmacies.6
Wegovy pills online
The Wegovy pill is prescribed the same way: an online or in-person clinician sends a prescription, and NovoCare Pharmacy or another pharmacy fills it.2 The pill must be taken each morning on an empty stomach with up to 4 ounces of water, followed by a 30-minute wait.1 The Wegovy pill guide compares it with the injection, and our best oral GLP-1 programs list services that prescribe it.
How to get Wegovy covered by insurance
Coverage depends on your plan, so start by asking your insurer whether Wegovy is on its formulary and what it requires. Many plans ask your prescriber to submit a prior authorization showing you meet the label's criteria. If your plan covers Wegovy, the savings card can cut the cost to as little as $25 a month, with savings capped at $100 a month; government beneficiaries are excluded.2
If your plan excludes weight-loss drugs, Novo Nordisk suggests your clinician ask your employer's human resources department to add coverage, and it offers a sample letter for that request.3 If coverage is denied, ask your prescriber about an appeal; the steps are the same as in our guide to whether insurance covers Zepbound.
Wegovy with Medicare
Eligible Medicare Part D enrollees can get any dose of the Wegovy pen or pill for $50 a month through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, from July 1, 2026, to December 31, 2027.34 Your prescriber must submit a prior authorization, and the $50 copay does not count toward your Part D out-of-pocket costs.34 See Medicare GLP-1 coverage.
Buy Wegovy online without insurance
Without insurance, buy Wegovy at Novo Nordisk's self-pay price through NovoCare Pharmacy. Prices checked October 7, 2026:2
The $199 introductory pen price covers two monthly fills for new patients through December 31, 2026.2 A month is 4 pens or a bottle of 30 tablets.23 Live prices are on the Wegovy cost page.
What is the cheapest way to get Wegovy?
The cheapest way to get Wegovy depends on your coverage:
- Commercial insurance that covers Wegovy: as little as $25 a month with the savings card.2
- Medicare Part D, eligible under the Bridge: $50 a month for any dose.4
- No coverage: the Wegovy pill at $149 to $299 a month, or the pen at $349 after two $199 introductory fills.2
At maintenance doses without insurance, the pill ($299 at 25 mg) is $50 a month cheaper than the pen ($349 at 2.4 mg).2 The two produced similar average weight loss on the label: 13.6% at 64 weeks for the pill and 14.9% at 68 weeks for the 2.4 mg pen.1 At retail pharmacies, Novo Nordisk suggests asking the pharmacist to compare your insurance price with the self-pay price before you pay.3
Compounded semaglutide is sold for less by some programs, but it is not FDA-approved, and the FDA does not review it for safety, effectiveness or quality.6 The FDA declared the semaglutide shortage resolved on February 21, 2025.7 See compounded semaglutide explained before choosing it.
