Tirzepatide Pills: Is There an Oral Tirzepatide?
There are no FDA-approved tirzepatide pills. What the tablets, dissolving tablets and drops sold online are, and which GLP-1 pills the FDA has approved.
There is no FDA-approved tirzepatide pill. Tirzepatide, the drug in Zepbound and Mounjaro, is approved only as a weekly injection.12 The "tirzepatide tablets", dissolving tablets and drops sold online are compounded products made by pharmacies, and compounded drugs are not FDA-approved.6 If you want a GLP-1 you can swallow, the FDA-approved options are the Wegovy pill, Foundayo, and Rybelsus or Ozempic tablets, which contain different drugs.435
Is there a tirzepatide pill?
No. Zepbound comes as a single-dose pen, a single-dose vial, a multi-dose vial and a KwikPen, all injected under the skin once a week.1 Mounjaro is also a weekly injection.2 Neither label lists a tablet, capsule, dissolving tablet or sublingual form.12
Lilly's weight-loss pill is Foundayo, but Foundayo is not tirzepatide. It contains orforglipron, a different, small-molecule GLP-1 drug taken once a day.3 Our guide to what Foundayo is explains how it compares with Zepbound.
What are the tirzepatide tablets sold online?
Tirzepatide tablets, oral dissolving tablets (ODT) and drops sold by telehealth programs are compounded: a pharmacy prepares them, and the FDA does not review compounded drugs for safety, effectiveness or quality before they are sold.6 No tirzepatide product taken by mouth has been through FDA review, so there is no FDA-reviewed evidence of how much of it reaches the bloodstream or how much weight it helps people lose.
That matters because GLP-1 drugs are hard to absorb by mouth. Even the FDA-approved semaglutide tablet only works because it contains an absorption enhancer, salcaprozate sodium (SNAC), and only about 1% to 2% of a tablet dose reaches the bloodstream, against 89% of an injected dose.4 That is why the Wegovy pill's maintenance dose is 25 mg a day while the Wegovy injection's is 2.4 mg a week.4
The FDA also warns against GLP-1 products sold without a prescription or labeled "for research purposes" or "not for human consumption", and advises buying only from state-licensed pharmacies.7 It treats claims that a compounded drug is the same as, or a generic of, an approved drug as misleading.8
Who sells compounded tirzepatide tablets?
Some telehealth programs list compounded tirzepatide in tablet form next to their injections. Wellorithm, for example, sells compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide as injections or oral dissolving tablets at the same price: $147 for the first 28 days of semaglutide, then $247, and $249 for the first 28 days of tirzepatide, then $349, as listed on its site on October 8, 2026.9 Our Wellorithm review covers what it includes, what it does not disclose, and its safety record.

Oral tirzepatide vs tirzepatide injections
Because no tirzepatide tablet is approved, the evidence for tirzepatide comes from the injections. In its main weight-management trial, Zepbound 15 mg led to 20.9% average weight loss at 72 weeks.1 There is no comparable label figure for any oral tirzepatide product.

Semaglutide tablets: approved and compounded
Semaglutide is different from tirzepatide because FDA-approved semaglutide tablets exist. The Wegovy pill is approved for chronic weight management, and Rybelsus and Ozempic tablets are approved for type 2 diabetes.45 All of them are taken in the morning on an empty stomach with a small amount of water, followed by a wait before eating.45
Compounded semaglutide tablets and sublingual semaglutide, which dissolve in the mouth or under the tongue, are compounded products and are not FDA-approved.6 They are not the same as the Wegovy pill or Rybelsus. Our guide to GLP-1 pills vs injections compares every approved tablet, and our GLP-1 pill ranking lists programs that prescribe them.
FAQ
Can you get tirzepatide in pill form? Not as an FDA-approved drug. Tirzepatide is approved only as the injections Zepbound and Mounjaro.12 Tablets sold online are compounded and not FDA-approved.6
Do oral tirzepatide tablets work? There is no FDA-reviewed evidence either way. No oral tirzepatide product has been through FDA review, and GLP-1 drugs are poorly absorbed by mouth without a specific absorption enhancer.46
Is Foundayo a tirzepatide pill? No. Foundayo contains orforglipron, a different GLP-1 drug, taken as a daily tablet.3
Is there a semaglutide pill? Yes. The Wegovy pill is FDA-approved for weight management, and Rybelsus and Ozempic tablets are approved for type 2 diabetes.45
